MONTPELIER, Jan. 24, 2019 – NFIB, the leading small business association in Vermont, applauds Gov. Phil Scott for stressing the importance of attracting workers to the state to fill job vacancies and his efforts to reduce regulatory burdens. The following comments may be attributed to NFIB’s Vermont State Director Shawn Shouldice:
“Finding qualified workers is now the number one concern of small businesses, so it is refreshing to hear Gov. Scott make that a top priority. If mom and pop businesses and entrepreneurs can’t expand because they can’t hire additional people, that will prevent economic growth if not addressed. We appreciate the Governor’s focus on improving workforce development, attracting workers to the state, and channeling young people into the jobs of the future.
“Gov. Scott’s pledge to reduce the burden of red tape is welcome news. Small business owners often spend hours complying with regulations at a significant cost. Streamlining the permit process will help projects get rolling, and get workers working.
“We applaud the Governor raising the threshold of the Vermont Estate Tax to make our state more competitive. Many states have eliminated death taxes because they are inherently unfair and a form of double-taxation.”
