Tennessee's Small Businesses Were Big Winners on Election Day

Date: November 05, 2014

Jim Brown, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, released the following statement concerning Tuesday’s elections:
“Thanks to the support of our members, NFIB/Tennessee helped elect pro-small business candidates to state and federal office on Tuesday.
“Eighty-five of 86 Tennessee candidates endorsed by the NFIB SAFE Trust won including Gov. Bill Haslam, an NFIB member, and 84 of 85 endorsed legislative candidates, including 71 in the House and  13 in the Senate.
“This brings the number of NFIB members serving in the legislature to 38–25 in the House, and 13 in the Senate.
“On the federal level, all of NFIB’s endorsed candidates won, including Sen. Lamar Alexander, Rep. Phil Roe (TN-1), Rep. John Duncan (TN-2), Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (TN-3), Rep. Scott DesJarlais (TN-4), Rep. Diane Black (TN-6), Rep. Marsha Blackburn (TN-7), Rep. Stephen Fincher (TN-8). Roe, Black and Fincher are NFIB members.
“Amendment 3 also passed, banning a state income and payroll tax, an NFIB-supported position.
“NFIB is the voice of small business in Tennessee and in Washington, D.C.. and on Election Day, our voice was heard loud and clear. Tuesday’s victories were a big step toward our goal of promoting and protecting the right of our members to own, operate and grow their businesses.”
NFIB/Tennessee is the state’s leading small-business association, with over 7,000 dues-paying members representing a cross section of the state’s economy.
