The growth of government spending weighing heavy on small business
On June 3, Gordon Denlinger, state director of NFIB in Pennsylvania, joined Senator Camera Bartolotta, fellow lawmakers, and good government advocates, for a news conference in support of the Taxpayer Protection Act. That Act would amend the state constitution to limit spending growth to a formula that combines the rate of population growth in the state with the rate of inflation. The formula would provide an automatic limit every year to the rate of growth of the state budget. Overriding the limit would require a supermajority of the General Assembly.
Small businesses are often impacted by higher taxes brought about by out-of-control government spending that hinder economic growth. The legislature has routinely increased state government spending above the rate economic growth in Pennsylvania. Limiting that would prevent ever-expanding state government growth.
Joining NFIB in support of the Taxpayer Protection act at the news conference were Senator Mike Folmer (R-48), Representative Ryan Warner (R-52), The Commonwealth Foundation, and the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association. Video of the news conference will be available at www.senatorbartolotta.com.
