NFIB Members Gather in Harrisburg for Small Business Day 2019

Date: April 16, 2019

Members Discuss Important Issues with Lawmakers

Members from around Pennsylvania gathered in Harrisburg for a two-day event that celebrated small business and provided an opportunity to meet with legislative leaders and have conversations about state and federal issues. Small Business Day 2019 began with a Craft Beer and Jazz Reception at Appalachian Brewing Company in Harrisburg.  The reception was an opportunity for small business owners to network with each other and with state representatives and senators. John Makrias of A&R Rental Center and John Carlin and Judy Felton-Carlin, owners of Quality Inn Breeze Manor, were honored for their 50-year membership with NFIB.

Small Business Day at the Capitol Seminars provided small business owners an opportunity to speak directly with state leaders about issues that matter to them: taxes, minimum wage, and environmental regulations. Reps. Frank Ryan, Mike Peifer, and Sen. Scott Hutchinson discussed taxes. NFIB’s Holly Wade, House Labor & Industry Committee Chairmen Rep. Jim Cox, and Pennsylvania Food Merchant’s Alex Baloga discussed minimum wage. And, Reps. Daryl Metcalfe and Greg Vitali ended the panel discussions with a robust discussion of environmental policies.

Auditor General Eugene DePasquale and Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding spoke with NFIB members about the different aspects of their positions and answered questions about workforce development, education, and the spotted lanternfly. NFIB State Director Gordon Denlinger ended the day with an update on NFIB’s efforts to make the TCJA federal tax cuts permanent.

If you were not able to attend, make plans for next year! Event details will be provided in the spring of 2020.
