The state Senate has just passed a bill to fund the 2017-2018 budget that increases taxes on natural gas, electricity and phone service to pay for additional government spending.  Please email your state House member and ask them to reject the Senate plan.  Tell them raising taxes on the backs of small business is bad policy because it hurts the state economy and endangers jobs. Tell them to vote against these damaging tax hikes.

Businesses that use a lot of energy, especially manufacturers, would be hard hit by these tax increases. Those supplied by natural gas are the most impacted. Under the Senate bill, natural gas prices would rise by 5.7-percent. One NFIB manufacturer did the math and found his natural gas bill would increase by a minimum of $57,000. Companies using electricity will see a .6-percent hike, and phone service will rise from 5 to 6-percent.

We appreciate your immediate attention to this alert and hope you will send your House member an email right away before a vote takes place.
