SALEM, Ore., Nov. 19, 2014—The state director for Oregon’s largest and leading small-business association today called for some media help in reminding their readers, viewers and listeners about the importance of the Small Business Saturday that follows Black Friday.
“The holiday shopping season is crucial to the state’s small businesses, which are still recovering from the slowdown in the economy,” said Jan Meekcoms, Oregon state director for the National Federation of Independent Business. “According to the NFIB Small-Business Optimism Index
for October, poor sales is the most important challenge facing small businesses, after government red tape and taxes.
“Small and independent business owners are among the most generous supporters of civic groups, local charities, youth sports, schools and virtually every other form of community activity. Shopping locally is a great way for people to help friends and neighbors create jobs and opportunities in the where we all live. I also hope people remember locally-owned businesses after Small Business Saturday is over.”
NFIB, America’s voice of small business, is helping small and independent businesses get the word out online about their best Small Business Saturday deals. Small business owners can visit www.NFIB.com/SBS
to submit information about their business and why shoppers should visit on Nov. 29. NFIB will promote these submissions on NFIB.com and in front of NFIB’s 227,000 Facebook fans and 95,000 Twitter followers.
For more than 70 years, the National Federation of Independent Business has been the Voice of Small Business, taking the message from Main Street to the halls of Congress and all 50 state legislatures. NFIB annually surveys its members on state and federal issues vital to their survival as America’s economic engine and biggest creator of jobs. NFIB’s educational mission is to remind policymakers that small businesses are not smaller versions of bigger businesses; they have very different challenges and priorities.
