This Weekend’s Sales Tax Holiday a Chance to Support Local Businesses

Date: July 28, 2022

"Small business is the engine that powers Ohio’s economy..."

NFIB State Director Roger Geiger says Ohio’s upcoming sales tax holiday on clothes, school supplies, and instructional material is a chance for people to support local businesses still reeling from a series of economic setbacks that began with the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This year’s back-to-school tax holiday is Aug. 5-7.

“This year’s tax holiday couldn’t come at a better time for Ohio’s small businesses,” Geiger said.

“Ohio is weathering the current economic storm better than a lot of states, but things like inflation and supply chain and labor issues are taking a toll on just about everybody,” Geiger said. “That’s why we’re urging people to shop local and shop small.

“Small business is the engine that powers Ohio’s economy, and by supporting Main Street businesses, we can help the independent and family-owned businesses that strive throughout the year to support their communities and provide the goods and services their neighbors need.”

Small business owners surveyed for NFIB’s latest Small Business Economic Trends report ranked inflation as the No. 1 issue affecting their business, followed by quality of labor.
