NFIB/NY Honored with Advocate of the Year Award

Date: January 18, 2018

NFIB members consistently rank healthcare costs as a top concern, which is no surprise given the rapidly rising premium rates in New York State. Earlier this year, the Department of Financial Services approved average insurance rate increases of 15% for individual premiums and 9% for small group plans. The high cost of healthcare, and therefore associated insurance premiums, is largely driven by mandates, taxes, and prescription drug costs in New York State.

NFIB/NY has long fought against and will continue to oppose the many legislative proposals in Albany that will drive up costs. From arguing against a plan to create a single-payer health care system to opposing yet another extension of the Health Care Reform Act (HCRA) surcharge, a $4.6 billion slush fund, NFIB weighs in on numerous proposals and fights to make health care more accessible and affordable for small business owners and their employees.

In recognition of our efforts, the Employer Alliance for Affordable Health Care recently honored NFIB/NY with its 2017 Advocate of the Year for its on-going support and involvement with the Employer Alliance’s grassroots initiatives. As a member of the Employer Alliance Board of Directors, NFIB/NY has been working with the Employer Alliance to keep health insurance affordable for more than two decades.

On behalf of NFIB/NY, Assistant State Director Erin DeSantis receives 2017 Advocate of the Year Award from Pamela Reese Finch, Executive Director of the Employer Alliance for Affordable Health Care.
