The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), New York’s and the nation’s leading small business association, announced today that Ashley Ranslow has been promoted to become the organization’s next state director in its Albany office effective January 1, 2022. NFIB advocates on behalf of nearly 11,000 small businesses in New York and represents hundreds of thousands of members nationwide. Ranslow ascends to the state director role after serving as NFIB’s assistant state director in New York since 2018. Her predecessor, Greg Biryla, is taking a new position within NFIB as a region director in the organization’s state government relations department.
As New York State Director, Ranslow will lead all advocacy, political, communications, and member engagement operations for NFIB’s New York office.
“I am thrilled and prepared to lead NFIB in New York at this uniquely critical moment in time on behalf of the small businesses that define the diverse character of every community and neighborhood across our state,” Ranslow said. “Small businesses across the Empire State continue to face an unprecedented and unpredictable set of challenges. New York’s never been easy to start and grow an independent business, but COVID-19 has only exacerbated Main Street’s struggle.”
Outgoing NFIB state director in New York, Greg Biryla, expressed unbridled confidence that Ranslow is the perfect person to lead: “NFIB members across New York are incredibly fortunate to have Ashley Ranslow’s rare combination of intellect, tenacity, and credibility in their corner. Ashley intimately understands the ethos of small business entrepreneurship and its importance to New York’s economic recovery, and she’s no stranger to stakeholders in the Capitol and across the state. Ashley will continue her fight on behalf of Main Street’s job creators and is ready on day-one to be a tenacious advocate for NFIB’s mission and membership.”
“A change in title does not change my focus,” said Ranslow, outlining some of NFIB’s most immediate priorities for 2022. “New York must find effective solutions to prevent cataclysmic UI premium increases, reduce and reform its tax and regulatory burden, and prevent any business shutdowns or operation restrictions as we continue to battle the COVID-19 virus.”
Ashley Ranslow has served the past four years as NFIB’s assistant state director in New York. Prior to joining NFIB, she held numerous roles centered on employer advocacy, including as government affairs manager for the Northeast Retail Lumber Association, representing independent lumber and construction supply dealers across the Northeast, New England, and the Mid-Atlantic. She is a graduate of Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Public Affairs and resides in Niskayuna with her husband Ted and son William.
