NFIB Meets With Nebraska Members in Four-City Swing

Date: September 25, 2019

Trips to Columbus, Kearney, Lincoln, and Omaha help shape the coming legislative lobbying agenda

More than any other association, NFIB places the highest premium on its reputation as truly member-driven.

Through its annual balloting of members on state and federal issues, its action alerts, and its group and one-on-one meetings, NFIB is the voice of small business in deeds, not just in words.

NFIB Nebraska State Director Bob Hallstrom and Senior Grassroots Manager Jake Braunger made a two-day swing through four cities in early September, seeking input from small-business owners on what NFIB’s lobbying agenda should center on when the Legislature returns for business in January.

  • In Kearney, Hallstrom and Braunger met Chad Softley of Prestige Exteriors and Greg Barney of Barney Building & Land. Softley agreed to join the NFIB’s state leadership council.
  • In Columbus, Hallstrom and Braunger met with Larry Dowd of Dowd Oil Inc. Dowd, who had donated $500 to NFIB’s Nebraska State PAC two weeks prior, pledged an additional $500 to help NFIB elect pro-small-business candidates to the Legislature. Later in the day, eight members met with the two NFIB officials at an event for them at Duster’s Restaurant. Brian and Becky Schmidt encouraged members to join NFIB’s Leadership Trust, a contribution level of $1,000+ to the PAC, where the Schmidts have already contributed $2,500 this year.
  • In Lincoln, Hallstrom and Braunger solicited the thoughts of Matt Tasler of Arbor Industries before heading to Omaha.
  • In Omaha, Hallstrom and Braunger heard from Tom Foley of the Holiday Lounge, a 14-year, NFIB-member business. They then met with Lee Jamieson of Asian Armory who told both men of his concern with online competition.

What’s on your mind? Bob and Jake would like to hear it. Do you have some time to host an event in your area with other NFIB members? If you can, send an email to Jake Braunger.
