‘Workforce Is One of the Biggest Driving Factors We Have To Keep Our Economy Going’

Date: September 06, 2023

Upskill Act Will Bolster Missouri's Workforce.

Last week, the Upskill Act became law. NFIB supported the measure during the 2023 legislative session, calling the bill a “great piece of legislation for both the business owners and their employees.”

Rep. Mike Henderson, who introduced the Upskill Act, touted the new law in an interview with Show Me Today saying:

“We hear all the time from companies who need workers and then they say they find the workers they may not have all the skills they want. What this bill is really about is if you’ve got a worker who comes to work every day, is a big cultural fit, everybody in the company is happy with them, but they don’t quite have the skills that you need to do what your company is needing, this is a chance for these companies to upskill their workers.”

“I think workforce is one of the biggest driving factors we have to keep our economy going, and that’s what this bill is trying to aim at.”

With more than a quarter of small business owners planning to raise compensation in the next three months, providing resources to enhance workforce training and education will help local job creators retain talent and remain competitive.
