Small Business Statement on Signing of COVID-19 Liability Protection Bill

Date: July 08, 2021

NFIB released this statement today from State Director Brad Jones in response to Gov. Mike Parson signing SB 51 & 43 this afternoon, legislation to provide COVID-19 liability protections to small businesses and other organizations that follow the government’s health and safety guidelines:

“This is a big relief for small businesses and other organizations concerned about predatory trial lawyers looking for opportunities to profit from the pandemic. Small businesses are focused on protecting their customers and employees and emerging from the economic crisis created by the pandemic. The cost of defending themselves against just one COVID-19 lawsuit could put them out of business for good.

House and Senate leadership worked together and pushed hard to get this very important legislation passed. This is the very definition of teamwork: legislators working in tandem to protect job-creating small business owners and the backbone of Missouri’s economy from the threat of being wiped out from one unfounded frivolous claim.”
