NFIB State Director Brad Jones says the upcoming back-to-school sales tax holiday is a good opportunity for people to support local businesses still recovering from the COVID-19 economic downturn. Missouri’s sales tax holiday on clothes, computers, and school supplies is Aug. 6-8.
“This weekend’s tax holiday is a great opportunity for people to support the local businesses that do so much to help their communities,” Jones said. “Shopping small this weekend can go a long way toward helping local businesses recover from the COVID-19 downturn.”
Small businesses account for 99.4% of all employers in the state, and they employ 46.2% of the state’s workforce, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. A study by American Express found that 67 cents of every dollar spent at a small business stays in the community and creates an additional 50 cents in local business activity as employees and owners purchase local goods and services.
