NFIB Endorses Gov. Rick Snyder

Date: August 16, 2014

The state’s leading small business organization, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), announced today that it will endorse Gov. Rick Snyder for reelection as governor of Michigan in the upcoming gubernatorial election.

“After almost four years of solid progress in bringing our state out of its economic malaise and putting it back on the map as a place to grow a small business, the choice is clear for Michigan small business” said Charles Owens, state director of NFIB/Michigan. “Our endorsement process included a survey of our membership that resulted in overwhelming support for Governor Rick Snyder over challenger Mark Schauer.”

In addition to the NFIB/Michigan member survey, the endorsement was subject to review and approval by the NFIB Federal PAC Board in Washington D.C. which analyzed candidate information before reaching a decision.

“I am honored to have the endorsement and support of the NFIB,” said Snyder upon being endorsed by the state’s leading advocate for small businesses. “Michigan currently ranks as the sixth-best entrepreneurial climate in the United States and small businesses are key to this successWith the support of NFIB, I look forward to helping provide an environment where small businesses continue to thrive, which in turn means more and better jobs for every Michigander.”

Owens said Michigan members were most impressed with the accomplishments Snyder’s business-world experience brought to the state in such a short period of time.

The rapid pace of much needed positive change He has brought to our state is compelling,” Owens said. “From eliminating the worst business tax in the nation to restoring the integrity and solvency of the Unemployment Insurance system to reeling in out of control state bureaucrats, the results are impressive. He understands the challenges that business owners face and he appreciates the need for government policies that support free enterprise and encourage job growth and expansion.”

Owens also said that the upcoming changes to the Personal Property Tax brought by Proposal 1 that will be the subject of a statewide vote in August are another example of the Governor’s ability to bring all stakeholders together to solve problems. “Here is a proposal to help Michigan be more competitive that has the support of almost every interest group in the state, even many that can rarely agree on most issues,” said Owens.

NFIB has an extensive grassroots network that reaches across the state which will allow it to communicate directly with its 10,000 members in order to drive small-business owners and their employees to the polls of behalf of Snyder. In fact, NFIB research shows that small-business owners vote at a much higher average than the general public.
