Jan Barlow of Jan's Professional Dry Cleaners to Represent Small Business

LANSING, October 4, 2018 – Governor Snyder announced today the appointment of Jan Caon Barlow, President of Jan’s Professional Dry Cleaners located in Clio, MI, to the DEQ Environmental Permit Review Commission. Barlow has been appointed to represent small business interests on the Commission and will serve a two-year term expiring October 4, 2020. Barlow is a member of NFIB and the Michigan Institute of Laundering and Drycleaning.

“The legislature passed, and Governor Snyder has signed into law, NFIB-supported legislation that would provide much-needed oversight of the rulemaking process within the Department of Environmental Quality,” said Charlie Owens, State Director for NFIB in Michigan. “Public Act 267 of 2018 creates an 11-member board to oversee the rulemaking process of the DEQ and one of the voting members of the panel includes a representative of small businesses.”

“I am honored to receive this appointment and I look forward to working with the DEQ staff and the other Commission members to make sure that Michigan’s rules are protective of our environment and reasonable for the small business community to follow,” said Barlow.

“We are pleased to have Jan representing small business concerns on the Commission,” said Owens. “Michigan has made great strides in reforming the regulatory burdens on job providers and the new Commission will continue those efforts.”
