The new legislature will contain more NFIB members and create a stronger presence for
business-minded legislators.
Most NFIB-backed candidates won their elections November 4th. This including some upsets of incumbents and victories in close races. In the aftermath it appears partisan control
will be split and the new Senate will be an added roadblock to legislation
costly for business. Pro-business
legislation will face a small hurdle in the House.
Control of the Senate flipped from a 19-15-1 majority for
Democrats to at least a 20-15 majority for Republicans that may increase to
21-14 after a close race is finally settled.
Meantime, control of the House dropped from an 89-58-4 majority for
Democrats to a 79-68-4 majority.
NFIB-connected members in the Senate include Rod Whittemore
(Skowhegan) and Brian Langley (Ellsworth).
NFIB-connected members in the House include Dale Crafts (Lisbon), Stacey
Guerin (Glenburn), Stephanie Hawke (Boothbay Harbor), Rich Malaby (Hancock),
Sted Seavey (Kennebunkport), and Nathan Wadsworth (Hiram).
