Hurricane Laura smacked into the Louisiana coast overnight as a Category 4 storm, making landfall near Cameron, 35 miles east of the Texas border.
The IRS said today it will extend the Oct. 15 deadline for various individual and business taxes to Dec. 31 to help people impacted by the storm.
The IRS is offering this relief to any area designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as qualifying for individual assistance. Currently this includes Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jefferson Davis and Vernon parishes in Louisiana, but taxpayers in localities added later to the disaster area will automatically receive the same filing and payment relief.
