Three Major New Jersey Policy Changes in Effect

Date: July 09, 2019

How will new rules on paid leave, minimum wage, and apprenticeship affect your business?

New NJ Family Leave Act to Impact Employers of 30+
Changes in the New Jersey Family Leave Act (FLA) that were signed into law in February have taken effect as of June 30, 2019. The new rules, which previously applied to companies with 50 or more employees, are now applicable to employers of 30 or more. The FLA protects an employee’s job when he or she needs to leave from work for an extended period to take care of a family member. Unsure how this affects you and your business?

Apprenticeship Requirement to Impact Contractors
The NJ Department of Labor & Workforce Development (NJDOLW) is administering a new program that impacts contractors who have public works contracts, requiring them to run registered apprenticeship programs. If you have questions about this new requirement, contact the NJDOLW’s Office of Apprenticeship. The Office can assist employers/contractors with matching occupational titles from its list of approved occupations, provide an overview of the USDOL registration process, and many other matters that will ease the transition.
