Small Business Disappointed By House Passage of Mandatory Leave Bill

Date: June 29, 2017

PROVIDENCE (June 29, 2017): In response to today’s news that the House has passed mandatory paid sick leave in the state of Rhode Island, the following statement may be attributed to Christopher Carlozzi, Rhode Island State Director for the National Federation of Independent Business:

Despite changes to the paid leave bill, the proposal is still detrimental to economic growth and job creation for Rhode Island’s many small businesses.

It is imperative that legislators understand that every time they attempt to interfere with the day-to-day operation of Rhode Island businesses, they create an even more negative economic environment. First a minimum wage hike now paid leave. It should come as no shock to legislators when Rhode Island finds itself at the bottom of the business friendliness lists yet again.
