MN's New State Requirements for New Hires

Date: November 06, 2019

No exemptions were made for part-time or seasonal employees.

Last May in the special session, Minnesota lawmakers passed legislation that requires employers to provide some basic information to all new hires.  The new law, which took effect on July 1, 2019, also added new requirements to paystubs. No exemptions were made for part-time or seasonal employees.

The Department of Labor and Industry is currently informing employers about it.  NFIB did not support this legislation. Here is a link to the recommended new hire form that completely complies with the new law that was developed by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry.  The department is urging employers to use the form when hiring new employees.

The new law also created two new requirements for pay stubs in case this information is not already on your current paystubs:

  1. The address and telephone number of your business office
  2. If relevant, any allowances for meals or lodging
