NFIB Thanks Kansas Senate for Defending Small Business

Date: February 22, 2017

Dan Murray, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, released the following statement today in response to the Senate voting to uphold Governor Brownback’s veto of HB2178, an increase in the state income tax that would be retroactive to the first of the year:

“This was a big deal for small business and a key vote for NFIB. This is a vote we’ll use to measure who in the Legislature supports small business.

“HB2178 was a terrible bill. It would have created instability and confusion and punished small-business owners who tried to plan ahead. You can’t change the rules in the middle of the game. HB2178 would have sent a clear message to existing and potential employers that Kansas doesn’t understand that businesses need predictability before they’ll expand and create jobs.

“Our members thank Governor Brownback for vetoing this awful piece of legislation, and we thank the Senate for standing up for small-business owners, their employees, and their families.”
