SMALL BUSINESS CALLS FOR PREEMPTION SUPPORT IN SENATE

Date: March 22, 2017

DES MOINES (March 22, 2017): In response to today’s action by the State Government Committee, the following statement may be attributed to Matt Everson, Iowa State Director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB):

Preempting counties or municipalities from determining baselines for wages and certain other employer standards is vital to ensuring that the small business community can operate throughout Iowa with continuity and labor cost predictability.

We certainly hope that strengthening our employment market by passing pre-emption in the full Senate will be the next step for this important legislation.  By guaranteeing wage and employment benefit consistency from town to town in our state, small business owners will have the confidence they need to create more jobs for hard-working Iowans.
