REFORMING WORKERS COMPENSATION WILL IMPROVE IOWAS ABILITY TO COMPETE

Date: March 27, 2017

DES MOINES (March 27, 2017): In response to the Senate’s action today on worker’s compensation reform for Iowans, the following statement may be attributed to National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Iowa State Director, Matt Everson:

Today’s passage of worker’s compensation reform is a step towards ensuring that Iowa will remain economically competitive with neighboring state’s. This piece of legislation helps reign in high insurance costs, while still providing top-notch medical benefits to employees in need of the program.

Iowa has seen an influx of trial lawyers taking advantage of the system over the last decade and this bill helps curb those abuses by striking a reasonable balance between covering the cost of employee’s medical expenses and creating a predictable fiscal environment for employers. For that, our members applaud each and every member of the Senate that helped ensure its passage.
