Gov. Cooper Signs State Disaster Relief Declaration

Date: July 16, 2019

The declaration will assist 10 North Carolina counties affected by flooding rains.

Earlier this month, Gov. Roy Cooper signed a state disaster declaration to make additional assistance available for people affected by flooding rains in June. The disaster declaration is aimed at helping North Carolinians in Catawba, Mecklenburg, Burke, Cabarrus, Caldwell, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, and Union counties.

The U.S. Small Business Administration has already granted a disaster declaration allowing affected residents to apply for low-interest SBA disaster loans. The governor’s signing of the declaration will make state-funded grants possible for residents who don’t meet the SBA loan qualifications.

“This declaration will help those who do not qualify for disaster loans from the Small Business Administration,” said Governor Cooper in a press release. “We want to work to make sure people get as much help as possible to recover from this unexpected disaster.”
