Entrepreneur Christine Ernst runs successful plant-scape business in Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS (April 25, 2018) – Gov. Eric Holcomb has just appointed Christine Ernst to a newly formed cabinet assigned with assessing and realigning workforce development programs and services in Indiana. The NFIB member and entrepreneur started her own business, Trans-Plants, in 1986 which provides indoor landscape design, flower arrangements and gift baskets.
“Chris Ernst brings so much business experience to the table, I know she will be a valuable member of this panel as they try to solve the workforce shortage facing Indiana companies,” said Barbara Quandt Underwood, NFIB’s state director in Indiana. “As a job creator herself who is keenly aware of business-related concerns, Chris knows first-hand about the difficulty of finding qualified workers.”
NFIB represents thousands of small business owners in Indiana where the problem of filling vacancies is made worse by a low unemployment rate. The April NFIB Small Business Jobs Report showed 21-percent of owners cited difficulty finding qualified workers as their Single Most Important Business Problem. Another 35-percent reported job openings they could not fill in the current period.
“We are grateful to Gov. Holcomb for naming the appointees to quickly and urgently to address the tens of thousands of unfilled jobs that currently exist in the state,” added Quandt Underwood. “Chris Ernst will bring enthusiasm to the panel because she has always had a strong work ethic and does what it takes to get the job done.”
Ernst, a graduate of Purdue University, is a life-long Indiana resident. Her business, Trans-Plants employs eight people, and serves many commercial accounts in the Indianapolis area.
