A symposium held in Illinois taught small business owners how to prepare and recover from cyber security attacks.
The Travelers Institute hosted a symposium in Oak, Brook Illinois aimed at teaching small business owners how to handle modern day cyber threats.
The institutes’s most recent Travelers Risk Index reported cyber threats as the second biggest concern to small business owners. While cybersecurity seems to be a major concern to small business owners, it is evident their feelings about their companies’ practices do not match up with reality.
Although 85 percent of small business respondents said they felt confident their business had implemented best practices for cybersecurity, just 18 percent said they had accessed the cybersecurity of vendors with access to their business’s data.
The symposium will have keynote speaker Joel Robertz, Special Agent, Counterintelligence and Cyber Program, Chicago Field Office at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The keynote speaker will be followed by a panel discussion on managing cyber threats, according to the Associated Press. Joan Woodward, President of the Travelers Institute and Executive Vice President of Public Policy at Travelers, will moderate the discussion.
The event has been set up to coincide with National Cybersecurity Awareness month and is being hosted in partnership with VEDC, a nonprofit business development organization that helps entrepreneurs start and grow their business through education, empowerment and small business loans, according to the Associated Press.
