BOISE, Idaho, July 19, 2019—The state director for Idaho’s leading small-business association is applauding today’s press conference by Gov. Brad Little and top legislative leaders announcing plans to further cut state regulations.

“For the past two years, we have been living through the hottest economy in everyone’s lifetime,” said Suzanne Budge, Idaho state director for the National Federation of Independent Business, “an economy by design, not by luck. It started in 2017 with President Trump slamming on the brakes on federal regulations, eliminating 22 for every one he’s added. Later that Congress, passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which gave small-business owners in particular the jet fuel needed to start hiring, start expanding their enterprises, and start paying their employees more.

“Also, that same year, Governor Little delivered on his promise to slow the state ‘s regulatory mill by issuing the Licensing Freedom Act by executive order. This has given an extra push to an economy that is producing 45-year record highs in NFIB’s Small Business Economic Trends reports, an internationally regarded barometer of America’s Main Street economy. Idaho small-business owners are heartened that Governor Little is choosing not to rest on his considerable laurels that other governors should be envious of.”

According to a news release issued by the governor’s office, today, “Governor Little and legislative leaders will continue to work together to further reduce regulatory burdens on Idaho citizens and businesses. The state’s licensing boards and commissions will work to implement 101 rule change recommendations resulting from the Licensing Freedom Act of 2017, which aimed to streamline and limit Idaho’s occupational licensing laws. Then-Lt. Governor Little created the Licensing Freedom Act of 2017 by executive order. Ultimately, the state may achieve a total reduction of 55 to 60 percent of all state regulations between the start and end of 2019.”

Out of 75 issues NFIB measures for its quadrennial Small Business Problems and Priorities report, ‘unreasonable government regulations’ came in second. More information about regulations can be found here.
