Members give lobbying direction on four issues

NFIB thanks its New Mexico members who took the time to vote their state ballot. Other associations poll their members but NFIB is the only one which centers its lobbying positions, both in Santa Fe and Washington D.C., on what its members tell it through annual surveys are their concerns. The 2019 New Mexico State Ballot asked four questions.

1. Should New Mexico require individual residents to carry health insurance or pay a penalty?
Yes—5 percent
No—88 percent
Und.—7 percent

2. Should legislation be passed requiring a supermajority rather than a simple majority vote by the New Mexico Legislature to enact a tax increase?
Yes—66 percent
No—21 percent
Und.—13 percent

3. Should New Mexico create a Family and Medical Leave Insurance Fund, funded by employees’ payroll deduction, to partially replace wages if an employee takes a leave of absence?
Yes—13 percent
No—74 percent
Und.—13 percent

4. In light of a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling, should New Mexico enact legislation promoting public sector union membership?
Yes—3 percent
No—90 percent
Und.—7 percent
