Small-business owners from around the state came for intimate roundtable discussions with policy experts and legislators on critical issues including workers’ compensation, health insurance, and taxes.
Members heard details of Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s proposed graduated income tax and the process by which the state’s constitution would have to be amended in order for this to come about.
NFIB’s state director for Illinois, Mark Grant, warned that the governor’s plan would hurt small businesses. NFIB members at the meeting also voiced concerns about language in the proposed amendment that would make it easier for the General Assembly to adjust tax rates in the future.
Panelists and speakers at Small Business Day included:
- Jay Shattuck, Shattuck and Associates Consulting
- Laura Minzer, Illinois Life Insurance Council
- Andrew Nelms, Americans for Prosperity
- Annette Fulgenzi, Illinois Small Business Environmental Assistance Program
- Katy Khayyat, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s Office of Regulatory Flexibility
- Jon Kurrle, vice president of NFIB Federal Government Relations
