Small Business Thanks Governor for Signing Property Tax Reform Bill

Date: June 19, 2019

Annie Spilman, NFIB’s state director for Texas, says the state’s small business community is grateful to Governor Abbott for signing much-needed property tax reform into law.

“Senate Bill 2 is going to make a big difference to a lot of small businesses,” Spilman said. Governor Abbott signed the bill today during a ceremony at Wally’s Burger Express, an NFIB member business in Austin.

“We had finally reached the breaking point,” Spilman said. “We had gotten to a point where property taxes were rising so fast that it was making it harder for small businesses to operate, let alone grow and create jobs.

“On behalf of our small business members, I want to thank Governor Abbott for making property tax reform one of his top priorities this session and for moving so quickly to sign S.B. 2 into law,” Spilman said.

Wally’s Burger Express owner Robert Mayfield said, “I am a second generation owner of this property. My sons, who are here today, are the third generation. There is a fourth generation here today, and these are my grandchildren. This reform will make it much easier to pass the business onto them.”
