How to Make a Difference in Your Legislator's Next Vote!

Date: January 16, 2019

Legislative sessions are underway across the country, and Congress is back in session.

NFIB will send you an action alert on key issues your lawmakers are about to vote on that would have a big impact on small businesses like yours.

When we do, we’ll include a draft letter that you can send state legislators or members of Congress, without making any changes. However, if you want to increase the chance that someone will read—and remember—your message, consider taking a moment to personalize your email.

Telling elected leaders how a bill would affect you, your business, or your employees can make a BIG difference.

According to a Congressional Management Foundation survey, 92% of congressional staff say an individualized message from a constituent could have a positive influence on a legislator’s voting decision; just 55% say lawmakers are likely to be influenced by a form letter.
Personalizing your message educates your elected official on how the legislation and laws impact you and your employees. Providing examples on how issues impact your businesses and the community they represent helps legislators understand the real-world impact their decisions have on their district.

Next time NFIB invites you to communicate with your elected officials, be sure to get personal!
