About 130 entrepreneurs and NFIB members attended this year’s Georgia Small Business Day luncheon, hosted by NFIB with the Georgia Association of Convenience Stores and the Georgia Craft Brewers Guild. The event was held in a meeting space at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Gov. Brian Kemp was there and signed House Bill 353, legislation making it illegal to defraud insurance companies by deliberately causing motor vehicle accidents. The bill was one of NFIB’s top priorities in this year’s legislative session.

“Insurance fraud and lawsuit fraud involving staged motor vehicle accidents are a big problem that drives up insurance costs for Georgia’s small businesses,” said Nathan Humphrey, NFIB’s state director for Georgia.
After the governor signed H.B. 353, Humphrey presented the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Kasey Carpenter (Dalton), with the NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award. The award recognizes legislators who support Georgia’s small businesses.
U.S. Sen. David Perdue also spoke, telling the gathering that he’d recently joined NFIB.
