Georgia Business Woman Honored by eBay

Date: June 04, 2019

One small business owner was named an ambassador by eBay.

The owner of Reflections of Trinity, a Powder Springs-based nonprofit thrift store, was recognized by eBay as one of its Small Business Ambassadors.

As part of her win, Laurie Wong, owner of Reflections of Trinity, was invited to Washington D.C. where she was able to meet with elected officials to discuss issues concerning her own business and other small businesses, according to Patch. As an ambassador, Wong spoke with officials about keeping small internet-based businesses in mind when drafting public policy.

As part of the ambassador program, eBay chose 24 small businesses from across the U.S, each of whom were able to tell their story directly to their representatives, senators, and their Congressional staff members.

eBay recently released its annual United States Small Online Business Trade and Inclusive Growth Report. In the report, eBay found that 96 percent of eBay-enabled small businesses in Georgia export outside of the country, compared to only 1.3 percent of traditional businesses.

Wong and other ambassadors also emphasized to lawmakers that there is a need in Georgia and across the U.S. for an affordable, universal, and reliable postal service as well as reduced trade barriers, and cross-border frictions. The ambassadors explained that small businesses cannot afford to absorb higher costs or uncertainty as easily as larger operations can.
