How to Navigate Indiana's Environmental Regulations

Date: March 14, 2018

The Compliance and Technical Assistance Program (CTAP) is Indiana’s small business environmental assistance program.  CTAP is a non-regulatory program located within Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) that provides free, confidential compliance and technical assistance to regulated entities.

CTAP is required by state law to maintain the confidentiality of the businesses it assists; therefore, your information will not be shared with any of the regulatory portions of IDEM unless you waive confidentiality.

CTAP was established to help Indiana businesses achieve compliance with environmental regulations. Experts on air, water, and waste regulations, and knowledgeable about current environmental issues and new technologies, they can assess the environmental compliance of your entire facility or we can help you address concerns about a particular process or regulation. They can also identify pollution prevention opportunities that can move your business out of the regulatory loop or move you into a less burdensome regulatory process. One of the many ways they can help is by working with you one-on-one at your facility. In addition to on-site consultations, CTAP provides:

  • Telephone assistance,
  • Assistance with permit applications,
  • Training on environmental requirements and regulations, and
  • Online environmental resources.

Upcoming Environmental Management 101 (E101) trainings are coming up this spring. E101 is free training offered by CTAP staff for those persons managing environmental responsibilities at Indiana businesses. The goal of this training is to assist environmental managers in understanding current state and federal environmental regulations and determining how they are applied to Indiana businesses. For more information on signing up for these trainings, please visithttp://www.in.gov/idem/ctap/2471.htm

Environmental regulations can be overwhelming to businesses. CTAP staff members are highly-skilled environmental professionals dedicated to helping businesses understand and comply with environmental regulations. Available weekdays to answer your questions or to schedule a consultation, they can be reached (800) 988-7901 (in-state only) or (317) 232-8172.  You may also visit http://www.in.gov/idem/ctap/index.htm for any of the resources or to sign up for a free confidential consultation.
