Rauner Earns Small Business Endorsement

Date: September 20, 2018

The NFIB Illinois Political Action Committee has endorsed Bruce Rauner for a second term as governor. NFIB State Director Mark Grant announced the endorsement today at a news conference SWD, Inc., an NFIB member business in Addison. NFIB is the nation’s leading small-business association.

NFIB State Director Mark Grant said the PAC’s endorsement was based on the candidate’s record and position on issues affecting small businesses. “Governor Rauner is the clear choice for Illinois’ small businesses,” Grant said.

Governor Rauner said, “It is an honor to be endorsed by the NFIB in this election. We are fighting to make Illinois the best place in the country to start and grow a business, and I thank the NFIB for their commitment to that effort.”

Grant said, “When he took office nearly four years ago, Illinois small businesses were struggling to keep their heads above water and to compete with business in the region. Today, they are firing on all cylinders, hiring more workers, paying higher wages and growing their businesses. They know that Governor Rauner and his economic and government reform agenda is a major reason why.”

“Governor Rauner never backed down from his ‘Turn-Around Agenda,’ which called for state financial reforms, a much-needed overhaul in the public pension system and property tax relief,” Grant said. “Governor Rauner also enacted major state regulatory relief for small businesses and he pushed for right-to-work zones around the state to allow for fair competition among businesses and to reduce local taxpayer burdens.

“Despite well-funded and entrenched opposition, Governor Rauner has never backed down,” Grant said. “He remains deeply committed to policies and legislation that will help attract and keep jobs in the state.

“On behalf of our dues-paying members throughout Illinois, I’m proud to announce the NFIB Illinois PAC’s endorsement of Bruce Rauner for a second term as governor.”

Today’s endorsement puts the considerable grassroots support of the state’s small businesses behind the governor’s campaign. Small-business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to vote. NFIB will encourage its Illinois members to help turn out the powerful small-business voting bloc on Election Day.
