State lawmakers scored on key small business issues.
RICHMOND, Sept. 12, 2019 – The state’s leading small business organization, NFIB, released its small business voting record today for the 2018-2019 sessions of the Virginia legislature.
“The NFIB Voting Record is an important tool for small business owners who want to know where their lawmakers stood on issues that they consider important,” said NFIB’s Virginia State Director Nicole Riley. “A legislator may say they support small business when out in the community, but when it comes to their actual votes in Richmond that isn’t always the case. This record provides a clearer picture.”
Issues related to encouraging affordable health care, providing tax relief and maintaining Virginia’s sensible regulatory environment continue to be critical issues for small businesses. Throughout the legislative session, NFIB keeps track of key votes that could positively or negatively impact the daily operations of a business. The data is compiled into a booklet and sent to the thousands of the association’s members throughout the commonwealth.
“If an owner sees that their lawmaker scored a 70 percent or even a perfect 100 percent, it lets them know their elected official is very supportive of small businesses, or the opposite could be the case,” Riley added.
