Mississippi Election Update

There were still a few votes pending Wednesday afternoon, but the Associated Press declared U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith the winner over Democratic challenger Mike Espy. Hyde-Smith had 55.6% of the vote to Espy’s 42.5%. Libertarian candidate Jimmy Edwards was third with 1.9%.

Rep. Trent Kelly, Rep. Bennie Thompson, Rep. Michael Guest and Rep. Steven Palazzo were reelected to seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In the race for state Supreme Court, incumbent Kenny Griffis had 52% of the vote, giving him the lead over Latrice Westbrooks in the race for Supreme Court District 1, Position 1. In the race for District 3, Position 3, incumbent Josiah Coleman led challenger Percy Lynchard with 64% of the reported vote.
