ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 25, 2018—NFIB Minnesota PAC, the political action committee for the state’s largest and most influential small business group, today announced its enthusiastic endorsement of Jeff Johnson for Minnesota governor.

“Jeff Johnson would be a great governor for small business. This was an easy choice for NFIB members,” said Mike Hickey, NFIB’s Minnesota state director. “He understands the serious problems we have with Minnesota’s current business climate and tax structure and would support initiatives to improve them.

“He also strongly supports small business on key issues relating to labor law and lawsuit abuse. He also was a strong supporter of small business during the six years he served in the Legislature and has been a conservative voice of reason on the current Hennepin County board.

“Congressman Tim Walz, on the other hand, has been a big disappointment for small business. On 10 issues of importance to small business in the 115th Congress, his voting record so far is a big fat 0. His lifetime rating is a disappointing 35 percent. He also supports a destructive $15 statewide minimum-wage increase, which would be very harmful to many small businesses and a completely unworkable scheduling mandate that will make it extremely difficult to set workers schedules and run a business. Furthermore, he pledges to use any continued state surplus coming from our massive $46 billion budget for additional spending and seems to have a little concern about Minnesota’s uncompetitive tax climate and business climate. Add to it all his statements that a single-payer type health insurance system is on Minnesota’s horizon, something NFIB members are strongly opposed to.

“The choice for small business in this critical 2018 governor’s race was an easy one and NFIB members enthusiastically support endorsing Jeff Johnson.
