An Update from Your NFIB/Tennessee State Director

Brown: We are in a critical time. Are free markets and capitalism going to survive and thrive?

Hello, NFIB members in Tennessee!

I don’t know about you, but it seems leading federal candidates are offering few solutions to the many problems small business owners like you are facing – including massive agency overreach and red tape at the federal levels. NFIB members are telling us the expanse of executive and judicial authority and less legislative engagement and oversight are significant concerns for their business.

Members also are telling us finding skilled labor with important soft skills is also a big challenge. Reforming immigration laws to provide employers more flexibility – legally – is an ongoing issue. Members also mention the bloated federal budget and lack of reform of entitlements. How does one cut through the obvious noise the media is gladly magnifying? How does one person help enable change and help small business reignite this tepid economy?

As your state director, I have seen how one person speaking up can make a huge difference. Positive, determined communications work. When many unite in this way, big changes can and will happen. It is vital that you, in your role as a leader in your community, make elected officials aware of your problems – but more importantly your solutions. You cannot assume they know. Civility and repetition work. The alternative methods so many employ today only add to the noise.

We are in a critical time. Are free markets and capitalism going to survive and thrive? I believe, yes, they will, but only if you know who your elected officials are at every level of government, and only if you make sure your voice is heard. NFIB can be a big part of your playbook to influence policy and politics. I encourage you to be as engaged and involved in our political and advocacy programs as possible. https://www.nfib.com/advocacy/ https://www.nfib.com/advocacy/elections/

Have a great and productive summer, and please let us know how we can help you and your business!
