Texas job growth continues to grow through May. The proof is in the payrolls, with another 35,000 positions added.
The added jobs continue a streak that began nearly two years ago, according to the Houston Chronicle which cited the Texas Workforce Commission.
The Longhorn state added more than 350,000 jobs over the past year, with employment growing at a rate of almost 3 percent. That is nearly double the national job growth rate of about 1.6 percent. According to the Workforce Commission, the state unemployment rate has stayed at 4.1 percent, even though the labor force added nearly 40,000 new workers.
Hiring rose across the spectrum, with more than 8,000 new hires in education and health in May, and almost 6,000 new hires in May in construction companies; with more than 40,000 over the year which is an increase of 6 percent. The professional and business service added 4,300 jobs last month.
