Mark Grant, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, released the following statement today in response to Gov. Bruce Rauner’s budget address:
“It’s time for lawmakers to stop playing politics and get serious about fixing Illinois’ budget problem. Our small-business members continue to support the governor’s economic reforms and commitment to balancing the state budget. Our members are concerned about the specter of higher taxes and believe the Legislature should be absolutely certain that state government isn’t wasting a penny of taxpayers’ money before even considering whether to pass a tax increase. It’s unfair and unsustainable for legislators to try to expect small businesses, the backbone of our state’s economy, to shoulder a greater tax burden while the state continues to spend money it doesn’t have.”
