NFIB State Director Greg Biryla considers the rushed bill a “missed opportunity.”
A new New York law aimed at preventing sexual harassment is leaving many business owners with questions. According to The New York Post, the new proposed law requires employers to train employees and post policies to prevent harassment by Oct. 9, 2019.
Bill sponsors of New York SB S3343A hope the bill “ensures employees are properly notified of their employers’ sexual harassment prevention policy and sexual harassment prevention training program and create a hospitable work environment for all employees.”
However, NFIB’s New York State Director Greg Biryla think this rush is a missed opportunity for tackling the issue of harassment in the workplace.
“We’re not in disagreement with the laws—but the lack of adequate notification to employers, particularly to small business owners, is frustrating,” says Biryla. “We’re also concerned about a missed opportunity to craft better policies that would have suited a wider variety of employees, rather than having this one-size-fits-all approach.”
