NFIB: Budget Plan Is a Big Step in the Right Direction

Date: June 14, 2017

Mark Grant, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, released the following statement today concerning the Illinois Senate’s balanced budget plan:

“This plan represents a grownup approach to dealing with Illinois’ deepening financial crisis. It calls for spending cuts, a freeze on property tax increases, and substantial reforms to the state’s broken workers’ comp system. This is exactly the kind of commonsense plan we need to get Illinois back on track.

“Our members approve of the provision calling for term limits for legislative leaders. It’s been frustrating watching entrenched legislative leaders play political games at the expensive of small-business owners and other taxpayers.

“The fact of the matter is, Illinois is broke. We haven’t had a real budget in two years. It’s time for legislators to focus less on trying to score political points and more on enacting sound policies that help working families and encourage businesses to grow and create jobs.

“This compromise is a big step in the right direction. Time is running out. Lawmakers should return to Springfield and act quickly on this plan.”
