BOISE, Idaho, Sept. 20, 2018—Two nationally prominent economists will be in Boise next week to share their insights on what is fueling the U.S. economy. The speakers are:

  • Dr. William Dunkelberg, chief economist for NFIB since 1971, who for 45 of those years has produced the Small Business Economic Trends report, which is considered by presidential administrations, Congressional leaders, the Federal Reserve, and state governments to be the national barometer of the small-business economy. The latest monthly SBET, released Sept. 11, showed the highest level of optimism among small-business owners in 45 years. A brief history of the SBET can be read here and a one-page bio of Dunkelberg here.

The speakers will address the current economic expansion, which has entered its 10th year. Many components of the economy are at their strongest in years: unemployment is below 4 percent, home and equity prices are boosting net worth, tax cuts are lifting disposable incomes and consumer confidence continues to soar. But how long can it continue?

The Wednesday, Sept. 26, by-invitation-only luncheon address will be held at the Cottonwood Grille, 913 W. River St., Boise, from 11:45 to 2 p.m.

NFIB members are invited to attend free of charge but a reservation is required and can be made here.

Reporters and editors are invited to attend the luncheon free of charge. An email of your interest in attending to [email protected] is requested.

NFIB thanks the Idaho Retailers Association and the Idaho Lodging & Restaurant Association for their co-sponsorship of the luncheon and presentation.
