Is Your Business 'Growing Smart'?

Date: January 31, 2018

A growing business is the goal of every business owner, but it can also get overwhelming and has the potential to throw the company out of whack with your vision. GrowSmart, a program offered by the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center and the Rome Floyd Chamber of Commerce, can help small business owners get back on track and improve their companies.

“When you’re working in your business every day or are actively involved in putting out fires, a lot of times people don’t take the time to separate themselves and take a strategic overview of the business and look at the different things that happen to them every day,” Rome SBDC Director Richard Montanaro told the Rome News-Tribune. “It’s hard to move the pieces around that are going to help you grow. The ideal candidate is that one who says ‘I cannot take one day for five weeks out of my schedule. I don’t have the time for it.’ If you don’t have time to do a course like this, to dedicate one day a week for five weeks to strategically plan for growing and improving your business, then your business is running you, you’re not running your business.”

The five-module program, which costs $895 (or $795 for Rome Floyd Chamber members), covers creating a plan for growth, marketing strategies, leadership and management, financial analysis, and a strategy for implementing the growth plan. Businesses are eligible to participate if they have been in operation for at least two years and have annual receipts of $300,000 or more.
