Shoppers spent a record $17.8 billion on Small Business Saturday this year, according to a report from NFIB and American Express. That’s an increase from last year’s $12.9 billion spent at small, independent stores and restaurants across the nation.
“Small Business Saturday gives them that little extra edge,” NFIB State Director Dawn Starns told Louisiana News Network.
Starns told the Louisiana News Network that state-specific figures aren’t available, but that anecdotal evidence shows the holiday makes a difference for small business owners.
“We see our members out there getting geared up for all the big sales, and just trying to find a way to compete,” Starns said.
