Governor Ron DeSantis Takes the Helm in Tallahassee

Date: January 11, 2019

On Tuesday, January 8, 2019 Ron DeSantis was officially sworn in as Florida’s 46th Governor. NFIB was in attendance representing small business owners throughout the week, participating in the Thought Leaders Luncheon, the Inaugural Swearing-In Ceremony, and the Inaugural Ball.

During the ceremony, Gov. DeSantis’ remarks detailed plans to promote Florida’s economy and continue to improve Florida’s business climate.

“Let’s promote a virtuous cycle whereby low taxes, a reasonable regulatory climate, a sensible legal system and a healthy environment attract jobs, business and investment,” Gov. DeSantis said.

Following the inaugural affairs, Gov. DeSantis hit the ground running, appointing two new justices to the Florida Supreme Court within his first week. NFIB heralded the picks as indicators that tort reform could be on the horizon.

“Governor DeSantis is off to a fantastic start with two rock-solid Supreme Court picks in his first two weeks,” said Bill Herrle, Executive Director of NFIB in Florida. “The changing dynamic of the Florida Supreme Court paves the way for the Florida Legislature to address lawsuit abuse and take action to protect small business owners from frivolous lawsuits.”
