Google Honors Pumpkin Patch in Iowa

Date: June 05, 2019

A local pumpkin patch has been recognized in recent Google study.

Google recently released its annual Economic Impact Report for 2018, and the Colony Pumpkin Patch of North Liberty was featured, according to CBS2 Iowa.

The report highlights one small business from each of the 50 states as an example of a successful partnership with Google. The report stated that 7,100 Iowa businesses, publishers and non-profits used Google search and advertising tools in 2018 which generated $1.04 billion in economic activity for the state.

Katie and Dean Colony, owners of the pumpkin patch, said they began the business in 2005 by converting their traditional farm into a patch to attract people during the summer and fall seasons. Tools such as Google My Business and Google Ads are what have helped Katie and Dean get the business noticed by tourists.

The husband and wife partnership say that about 70 percent of their advertising budget goes toward digital advertising, and their hope is that with continued success they can become a year-round business in the future.

As part of their prosperous relationship with Google, the Colonys are set to visit Google headquarters, Googleplex, in Mountain View, CA for a three-day conference with the other businesses featured in the annual report.
