Wisconsin Small Business Backs Personal Property Tax Repeal

Date: June 18, 2021

An Overwhelming Number of Wisconsin Small Business Owners Back the Repeal

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) in Wisconsin, which represents thousands of small businesses across the state, issued the following statement from NFIB State Director Bill G. Smith in response to a move by the Joint Committee on Finance, which took a big step towards finally eliminating the state’s obsolete personal property tax.

“We understand we are not quite there yet. However, now that the Joint Finance Committee has approved the necessary funding for repeal, I am confident the Legislature has the commitment to finish the job and will approve legislation that would eliminate the tax.”

Right now, thanks to the dire consequences the COVID-19 pandemic, many small business owners are struggling to keep their doors open. Eliminating the personal property tax is a simple action that state legislators can take to ensure that our mom and pop shops are able to survive.
