On Friday, Governor Pritzker issued an emergency rule making it a Class A misdemeanor if a “nonessential” business opens before state officials give the go-ahead.
Under this rule, small business owners who open ahead of schedule can be fined and sent to jail.
The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR), a bipartisan committee of 12 state legislators, will vote as early as Tuesday whether to reverse the rule. Eight “no” votes are needed to block it.
Please contact JCAR members and urge them to oppose the governor’s attempt to bypass Illinois’ constitutional lawmaking process and turn small business owners into criminals!
